The EastAfrican 40 ADVERTISEMENT OCTOBER 11-17,2014 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: AGRA PARTNERSHIP AUDIT AND INFLUENCER MAPPING CONSULTANCY Consultancy task: To identify and map AGRA’s key partners and influencers and develop strategies to enable AGRA to effectively engage with both constituencies for greater impact. 1. Background: The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2006 to work with African governments, farmers, donors, NGOs and the private sector to reduce hunger and poverty in Africa through agricultural development targeted at resource poor farmers. The organization works across the entire agriculture value chain, connecting the dots and actors, from farm to fork to increase both the productivity and profitability of farming for millions smallholder farmers across sub-Saharan Africa. AGRA’s focus on seeds, soils, markets, and enabling policies is proving to be a winning combination for smallholder farmers and African economies. To deliver on its promise to catalyze a uniquely African Green Revolution, AGRA needs meaningfully engage with relevant partners and influencers. In this regard, AGRA is looking to engage the services of an experienced consultant or consultancy firm to develop robust partnership and influencer engagement strategies. AGRA hopes that the two strategies will help it enhance its impact on the ground. The proposed strategies should assist the organization to address existing corporate reputational risks as well as build strong and beneficial relationships with a range of partners and influencers. 2. Scope of the consultancy: As AGRA continues to drive Africa’s green revolution agenda, the organization needs to build strong and strategic relationships with a range of carefully selected partners and influencers. AGRA’s Policy Unit supported by the Communications Unit would like to position AGRA as a globally respected partnership-oriented organization that is leading the transformation of African agriculture through innovative farm-to-fork approaches. AGRA therefore seeks to undertake a mapping of the organization’s key partners, stakeholders and influencers, understand their perceptions of AGRA and develop strategies for engaging with them in mutually beneficial ways in order to ensure greater awareness of and impact of AGRA’s work. We define ‘influence’ as the capacity to shape the thinking or catalyze action and commitment from action from thought leaders, decision-makers, stakeholders, media, and the public, in order to achieve impact and effect change to improve the lives of those for whom we work: resource poor smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Influencers will individuals or entities that possess critical knowledge, insights and support that AGRA can leverage to successfully implement its programmatic work. The consultancy will be at both the corporate and country level. The country level work will cover the following key countries of AGRA’s operations: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria and Tanzania. 3. Objectives: The objectives of the consultancy will be to: i. Undertake an audit of AGRA’s key past, present and potential partners This will involve: determining who they are and their perceptions about AGRA ii. Develop a strategy for strengthening AGRA’s partnerships iii. Undertake an influencer mapping exercise This will involve: determining who they are and their perceptions about AGRA iv. Develop a strategy for engaging with the key influencers for maximum impact.
