8 K’OGALO FETE If city is painted green then it’s Gor Celebration. Eighteen years is a long time to wait for silverware, so when you finally get it, you have to shout about it loud and do it in style, like these Gor Mahia fans did yesterday Monday, November 4, 2013 NAIROBINEWS.CO.KE news I’ll have a bite too... the only problem was these fans were feasting on raw fish. | Photos, Jeff Angote, NairobiNews BRIAN YONGA, NairobiNews firstname.lastname@example.org I t has been an 18-year wait for Gor Mahia fans to lift the coveted Kenya Premier League trophy. Yesterday the team got its trophy and fans had to show the rest how to celebrate. They came out in their numbers in the streets of Nairobi in preparation for the event set for Kasarani after their match against KCB. Streets were painted in green as Kogalo fans literally took over as onlookers watched from a distance. Business on Moi Avenue and Tom Mboya street came to a standstill as the fans danced, sang celebrating their team’s achievement. Joy was written on their faces and will certainly replace the tears they shed last season when they drew a match against Thika United on the last day. Donning their green jerseys, men, women and children too marched to the Tom Mboya statute the symbolic meeting point where they started early celebrations. “I am glad to be alive to witness this historic day, it is indeed a special occasion for the club and all its fans who have supported the team all through”, said George Jakadaddy, who travelled from Kisumu. Hawkers used the opportunity to sell the team’s merchandise. And telling from the number of fans who bought the wares it was brisk business. From t-shirts, umbrellas, caps, and calendars, the hawkers made a kill. Photographers too made good business taking pictures of fans next to the statue posing with a dummy trophy. TO COMMENT ON THIS STORY GO TO : www.nairobinews.co.ke/k’ogalo This is how our names are written. Not the real one. These fans even had a trophy with them. Smile like a champion. Gor fans believe Tom Mboya is responsible for their success.
