The EastAfrican 38 ADVERTISEMENT APRIL 5-11,2014 EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY LAKE VICTORIA BASIN COMMISSION SECRETARIAT CAREER OPPORTUNITY The East African Community (EAC) through the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Secretariat is coordinating the implementation of the 2nd Phase of the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (LVEMP II) which is being implemented in all the five EAC Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda). The project is contributing towards the attainment of the Shared Vision for the Management and Development of the Lake Victoria Basin through strengthening of the regional and national institutions for governance of transboundary resources in the basin; and facilitating public and private environmentally friendly investments in the Lake Victoria Basin. LVBC Secretariat hereby invites applications from suitably qualified young professionals who are citizens of East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) for the following short term position. REF: EAC/LVBC/CONS/HR/14-14/01 REMOTE SENSING/GIS SPECIALIST (YOUNG PROFESSIONALS) Reports to: Regional Project Coordinator (LVEMP II) Duration of Contract: Station One year renewable subject to availability of funds LVBC Secretariat Headquarters, Kisumu, Kenya MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Remote Sensing/GIS Specialist shall provide the necessary technical expertise to support the Water Resources Management Officer (WRMO) in the collection, compilation, evaluation, interpretation, generation, maintenance and distribution of spatial information (including remotely sensed data and GIS information layers) for water resources management applications, including environmental and socio-economic analysis of the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB). QUALIFICATIONS 1. 2. At least a Degree in Remote Sensing, GIS or IT with Remote Sensing and GIS specialty, or related fields with strong background in remote sensing. At least 3 years of experience involving the use of remote sensing and GIS in planning development, monitoring, and management of natural resources systems. Particularly, in the retrieval, storage, archiving, processing and interpretation of RS data.
